Two Lashkar militants held in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian
Two Lashkar militants were apprehended by combined forces from Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Ever since the Pahalgaon incident, an operation against militancy has been ongoing throughout Jammu and Kashmir. While the operation was on, the army and police received information that two suspects were moving with weapons in Shopian. On getting that news, a combined force of 44 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police launched a search operation.
Militants Trapped
Two militants were attempting to take cover in the Baskuchan Imam Sahib locality of Shopian, police sources said. The moment the information was received, the militants were trapped in the area. The two militants were attempting to flee sensing the presence of the forces. But they were surrounded from all sides. The two militants eventually surrendered. They have both been arrested.
Arrested with Arms and Explosives
Police added that the two detained militants are Lashkar members. They have recovered AK-56 rifle, huge quantity of cartridges, grenades and explosives from them. The arrested are being tried to be interrogated to ascertain if any sabotage was to be orchestrated.
Recent 'Kelaar' Operation
It was a couple of weeks back that the Army had carried out a 'Kelaar' operation against the militants in Shopian. During this operation, the Army killed three Lashkar militants. Two of them were local militants named Shahid Kutte and Adnan Safi Dar. The names of these two militants were included in the list of local militants that the Army had made after the Pahelgaon incident.
