Welcome actor Mushtaq Khan dies of liver cancer in Mumbai
Veteran character actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his performances in films such as Welcome and Aashiqui, has passed away at the age of 56.
According to reports, Mushtaq Khan had been admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai for approximately 15 days. He had been battling cancer, which was diagnosed around five years ago. Although he recovered after treatment, the disease reportedly returned recently, following which his health continued to deteriorate.
His business partner, Shivam, confirmed his death in a conversation with Aaj Tak/India Today. He reportedly passed away during treatment at the hospital on Thursday, September 24. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on September 25.
The news of his demise has sent a wave of grief through the film industry and among his fans.
A Career Spanning More Than Four Decades
Born in the town of Baihar in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, Mushtaq Khan began his career in theatre. He made his debut in Hindi cinema in 1980 with films such as Thodi Si Bewafaii and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, he acted in over 250 films. Alongside films, he also appeared in several popular television shows, including Adaalat, Chacha Chaudhary, Tedhe-Medhe Sapne, and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi.
Recognition Through Comic and Supporting Roles
Mushtaq Khan played several memorable characters that made him a familiar face among audiences. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Ballu, a companion of Majnu Bhai, played by Anil Kapoor, in the 2007 film Welcome.
His performances as Bhagwati Prasad Mishra, a character with a South Indian accent in the 1993 film Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and as the tailor Rafu Master in the 1990 blockbuster Aashiqui, were also widely appreciated.
He was also praised for his performances as Chutki Baba in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Gul Khan in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, and a bus conductor in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin.
Mushtaq Khan's contribution to Hindi cinema, particularly through his comic and supporting roles, will be remembered by audiences and colleagues across the film industry.
