Varanasi – Renowned film and television serial producer Dilip Sonkar, a native of Manduadih police station area, has raised serious questions on the administration over the failure to arrest the accused involved in the attack on his ancestral home in Varanasi. Dilip Sonkar is known for producing several popular and socially impactful superhit television serials such as Ranbheri, Laal Rekha, Jai Bharti, Daman Mitti Ka, Bandhan Kachche Dhaage Ka, Parshuram, and is currently producing the mythological serial “Kashi Vishwanath” for Doordarshan.

According to reports, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, a violent attack took place at his ancestral residence in Varanasi. A group of around 25 to 30 individuals, allegedly known for their involvement in criminal and anarchic activities in the Manduadih area, forcibly entered the house. During the attack, Dilip Sonkar’s brother Vikas Sonkar, sister-in-law Kavita, Moni, and other family members including nephews and nieces were brutally beaten with sticks. The attackers also looted cash from the house and snatched jewelry from the women’s necks and hands, leaving several family members seriously injured.

It has been reported that the attackers are supporters of a local leader belonging to a specific caste-based group. On Saturday evening, they allegedly brought a DJ vehicle in front of the house, played loud and obscene songs, danced, and attempted to damage the boundary wall of the house with a large vehicle. When the family objected, the attackers allegedly carried out the violent assault.

The family immediately informed the police helpline and local police, but despite waiting for hours, the First Information Report (FIR) was not registered promptly. Even after being made to sit at the police station for a long time, the injured family members were sent for medical examination only around 8 pm. The station in-charge allegedly attempted to downplay the incident and pressured the family multiple times to alter the contents of their written complaint to make the matter appear minor. The women and other family members remained at the police station for hours before the FIR was finally registered.

Speaking to the media from Mumbai, a deeply distressed Dilip Sonkar said that while the Uttar Pradesh government claims to be committed to the protection of Scheduled Caste communities, it is extremely painful that even educated and financially stable individuals from the Scheduled Castes like his family are unable to receive timely help from the police administration. He questioned what the condition of ordinary people must be if this is the situation for them. He alleged that the police deliberately tried to suppress and dilute the case and, till date, has failed to arrest even a single accused.

He further stated that women and children present in the house were assaulted, women were subjected to indecent behavior and molestation, and cash was looted. The attackers allegedly used caste-based slurs, abused the family members, and threatened them with death. As a result of this incident, the entire family is living in extreme fear, with a serious threat to their lives and property. The accused criminals are reportedly roaming fearlessly around the house on motorcycles, armed with weapons, and continue to threaten the family with dire consequences for approaching the police.

In this context, Dilip Sonkar has written an emotional letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, requesting immediate protection for his family. He has appealed to the Chief Minister to direct the Varanasi police to arrest the culprits without delay and take strict, lawful action against them, so that no further untoward incident occurs and his family’s safety can be ensured.

Respectfully…
