Extravagant Accusations Appear

On September 18, 2025, a few outrageous accusations about the connection of Pakistan’s military with the militant organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) came up. A JeM commander in a newly posted video alleged that General Asim Munir of the Pakistan Army gave instructions to his officers that the funerals of terrorists killed in India’s Operation Sindoor should be honored.

The accusations point to the fact that, if confirmed, militants who died in confrontations with India were given military honors to the extent of a formal protocol in Pakistan. Such action has sparked concerns insinuating the merged lines between Pakistan’s government agencies and terror groups on the UN blacklist.

Insights from the Viral Video

In the appearance of Masood Ilyas Kashmiri, the speaker from the Jaish-e-Mohammed video, the story is of General Munir's command instructing top officers to go along the funeral processions of militants who had lost their lives during Operation Sindoor. He further stated that the military officials were requested to wear full regalia and symbolically pay the highest forms of dignified homage to the terrorists, as the guards at the funerals.

Such instruction, if proven, would indicate that the Pakistan military leadership has formally supported militants' activities, and the question could arise about their pledge to fight terrorism worldwide.

An Account of Operation Sindoor

The operation Sindoor was India’s prompt response to an unprovoked attack by terrorists - killing 26 people, mostly tourists - in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force coordinated and executed simultaneous strikes on terror camps in Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muridke.

It was reported that no innocent people died in India; however, Pakistan claimed the opposite and said people were killed and injured. The operation had again drawn attention to cross-border terrorism and accusations that Pakistan was harboring Kashmiri militants.

JaEsM Utters More Than One Thing

In this very video, Kashmiri didn’t only point at Munir but also, among other things, talked about JeM founder Masood Azhar, asserting that he was the one who masterminded the major terror attacks within India, including Delhi and Mumbai. He mentioned how Azhar managed to escape from Tihar Jail in a very dramatic manner and how he used the training camps situated in Pakistan, specifically Balakot, to train for the continuation of violence.

Suspicion Regarding Authenticity

The Hindustan Times has publicly stated and clarified that they cannot render independent verification on the authenticity of the video or the claims made. Nevertheless, the timing of this disclosure—only a few days after Operation Sindoor—has ignited discussions in diplomatic and security circles. The truth of the allegations aside, they still underline the precarious state of South Asian security and the ongoing threat of terrorism.
