Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old sensational Indian player, added another feat to his name during the U-19 World Cup 2026 match against Bangladesh on Saturday. He scored 72 off just 67 deliveries, including 3 sixes and 6 fours in the match.

Interestingly, Suryavanshi reached his half-century in just 30 balls. At a mere age of 14 years and 296 days, he has now become the youngest cricketer to register a 50-plus score in a Men's U-19 World Cup match.

Previously, Afghanistan's Shahidullah Kamal made this record by scoring a 50 against the West Indies at the age of 15 years and 19 days. Babar Azam from Pakistan is third on the list, following his 50 against the West Indies in 2010.

Other Major Records of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also surpassed Virat Kohli in the category of the top Indian batters with the most runs in youth ODIs. For the unversed, the 14-year-old has scored 1,047 runs in 20 youth ODIs, while Virat Kohli scored 978 runs in 28 matches.

Meanwhile, Vijay Zol from India leads the list with 1,404 runs from 36 matches. On the other hand, Bangladesh's Najmul Hossain Shanto is also at the top spot with 1,820 runs.

Earlier, Bangladesh's Azizul Hakim Tamim and India captain Ayush Mhatre avoided the traditional pre-match handshake. This clearly shows the current state of affairs between both teams.

To add to this surprise, the vice-captain of Bangladesh, Zawad Abrar, came out for the toss instead of Hakim, despite the latter being named in the playing XI. Abrar went on to win the toss after a rain-affected delay and elected to bowl first.
