Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Bengaluru today to launch two major infrastructure projects that will hopefully better connect across the city and make travel easier for thousands of commuters. During his visit, both the long anticipated Namma Metro Yellow Line and a new Vande Bharat Express train service to Belagavi will be launched.
Namma Metro Yellow Line: Quicker and More Eco-Friendly
Namma Metro Yellow Line, a milestone addition to Bengaluru's rapidly expanding metro service, is expected to significantly alleviate travelling time over the span from the northern part to southern end of the city. The Yellow Line which intersects with key residential and commercial centres that are heavily transit-based with little roadway alternatives will help ease road congestion, producing a more eco-friendly and advantageous transportation option.
In a city renowned for experiencing vehicular saturation, enhancing metro service provides monumental advancement in creating infrastructure for transit service as attempted.
Vande Bharat Express to Belagavi: Speed and Comfort
The Vande Bharat Express to Belagavi is another key development of the day. This semi-high-speed train is known for its modern design, speed abilities, and passenger comfort, and will drastically reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Belagavi.
Improving connectivity between the state capital and the northwestern part of the state, the new service is expected to give a lift to both business and leisure traffic, and regional economy.
Traffic restrictions related to Prime Minister's event
Bengaluru Police issued traffic advisories to support people during Prime Minister's visit. Police say they will be additional traffic restrictions on key roads from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will be significant restrictions, and so commuters will have to plan their travel.
There will be significant areas around the event venues, roads down the PM's route, and then other roads at certain intervals that will have disruption and/or additional security and diversions. Residents and commuters close to the events are strongly advised to use alternative routes and public transport where possible to avoid delays.
One Step Closer to Sustainable Urban Transport
The inauguration of these projects comes at a time when Bengaluru is trying to deal with its ever increasing urbanization surge while simultaneously pursuing sustainable transport solutions. The metro extension adheres to the city’s long term plan to create a connected multimodal transport map and with Vande Bharat, this is the first step on the Indian Railways path to modernization.
Looking Ahead
Before the inauguration ceremony, representatives on behalf of the state reiterated the government’s plans to invest in relevant infrastructure projects to improve connectivity, lower pollution, and ultimately better the lives of the citizens.
For daily commuters these developments mean shorter travel times, better options, and a more pleasurable travelling experience. With the Namma Metro Yellow Line and Vande Bharat Express, commuting to and from Bengaluru looks on the up!
