Himalayan Horror: Landslide Engulfs Bus, 15 Lives Lost in Bilaspur”
Himachal Pradesh has experienced a disaster after a landslide along with a bus going under the ground near Bilaspur led to the death of 15 people. Rescue crews are rushing to get a hold of the areas affected by the incessant rainfall.
Devastation in the Hills
It was on the evening of October 8, 2025, that a terrible catastrophe took place in the picturesque slopes of Himachal Pradesh. The massive landslide that ripped through a bus carrying dozens of passengers, in the district of Bilaspur, had its sudden burying of the vehicle under the debris, killing the people on board at least 15, along with those injured and a few others who are feared to be trapped.
The Moment of Impact
The bus was traveling on the route that goes from Marotan to Ghumarwin, and in the Jhanduta area, it was passing by Balughat (Bhallu Bridge). At about 6:30 PM, after days of heavy rain that had softened the slopes, the earth came down with rocks, mud, and branches which then mixed with the bus and thus caused the tragedy.
Rescue in the Rain
Rescue teams, the SDRF, and the local police did their best to help but the situation was very difficult. The continuous rain interfered with the removal of debris and the search for the survivors. They used heavy vehicles to excavate the parts under the debris where they found the people in better health and medical teams were treating them.
The Human Toll
The death list includes nine men, four women, and two kids. Three injured children were taken out, and hospitalized. Shock has spread among the families of the deceased; a large number of them, which are members of the same family, has made the tragedy even more powerful at the emotional level.
Official Response & Relief
Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India announced that each of the families of the deceased victims will receive an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh, while those who suffered will get ₹50,000. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is already at the forefront of directing the work of the rescue and relief operations coordinating with the district administration.

Specialists say that it is not a one-time phenomenon. The region of South Asia has been confronted with the combination of irregular precipitation and the instability of soils resulting in landslide incidents, and this is the immediate aftermath of a pattern. The delay of the monsoon, its unusual character, and eventually its tough-fought triumphs on the region's frail lands are the effects of climate change.
