AI-Generated Images Trigger FIRs Over Manikarnika Ghat Redevelopment in Varanasi

Eight initial information reports have already been covered in Varanasi against eight people and different social media pages about X, concerning the so-called circulation of AI-powered and fake images depicting the reconstruction of a holy burning place in the Hindu faith, Manikarnika Ghat. According to the governments, the fake images have been calculated to offend religious sentiments, fake news, and lead to civil unrest, hence making a development project a source of controversy. They supposedly published inaccurate images and falsely depicted what was happening at the ghat as indicated by the police officials including the release of images they purported to be efforts to obstruct reality of the upgrading of Hindu gods and monuments. This issue was compounded on 16 January 2026, when the content went viral on X and triggered a deluge of inflammatory posts and reposts threatening the social tranquilly. 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath responded angrily that the allegations were simply a fake news and no temples or religious heritage buildings were being demolished. The local government clarified it that the project will assist in preserving the spiritual identity of the ghat, and enhance amenities to the devotees. Mano who filed the complaint is the company that is performing the work of re development. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions of incitement of enmity and injury of place of worship, outrage of religious sentiments and mischief of people have been used as grounds to file FIRs. The same applies to the creators, reposters and amplifiers of the content. Though, no one has yet been arrested, the investigation is underway although the matter per se is political because the project has been criticised by the opposition.

The new semi-high-speed sleeper train is planned to be used in long-distance overnight services with a significant reduction in the travel time (approximately 2.5 hours) in the congestion-prone Howrah-Guwahati route providing passengers with a better and safer alternative, with a greater speed. Its inaugural commercial service run was on January 17, and standard passenger services commenced on January 18, 2026. The train, which operates six days a week, enhances connectivity between eastern and northeastern India and makes accessibility to the involved parties (namely travellers, students, workers, and businesses) more convenient and introduces a new era in Indian modern rail experience.

Faster Route, Smarter Schedule for Long-Distance Travel

Vande Bharat sleeper train is a passenger railway train running between Kamakhya station and Howrah Junction that are the two large railway junctions serving millions of people annually. The train makes crucial stops on its route like Malda Town and New Jalpaiguri, making it easy to connect with the northern West Bengal and other areas.

The service operates a six day schedule six days a week. The Howrah-Kamakhya train operates on a daily basis except on Thursday and the Kamakhya-Howrah Matador operates on a daily basis except on Wednesday.
