Varanasi, May 25 – The city of Kashi paid heartfelt tribute to Lalman Sonkar, a revered freedom fighter and social figure popularly known as “Bal Senani” (young revolutionary), who passed away on May 12. A condolence ceremony was held at his Manduadih residence where dignitaries, family members, and admirers gathered to honor his legacy.
Early Involvement in the Freedom Struggle
Lalman Sonkar was drawn to the freedom movement at a very young age. During British rule, he secretly distributed the revolutionary newspaper “Ranbheri” door to door in Kashi, calling on people to rise against colonial oppression. Despite being a child, he fearlessly faced British police brutality and imprisonment, earning him the title of Bal Senani.
Legacy of Patriotism in the Family
His father-in-law, Shiv Lal Sonkar, was also a noted freedom fighter. Lalman Sonkar’s life and family were deeply rooted in the patriotic fervor of the independence movement. Even after independence, he remained dedicated to national service through social and community work in Kashi.
