A Winning Mandate

CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA candidate, was elected as the 15th Vice President of India, on September 9, 2025, with 452 votes out of 752 valid votes. He defeated B. Sudershan Reddy, the opposition candidate, who received 300 votes. The announcement of the result, by Returning Officer P. C. Mody came after 96–98 % parliamentary turnout, with 767 MPs casting their ballots and 15 invalid votes.

Ideology and Validation

Radhakrishnan hailed his victory as the triumph of "nationalistic ideology," thus, the NDA’s ideological discourse was strengthened. The interpretation of his victory as a strong endorsement of the BJP’s values in the context of ideological polarization is gaining ground.

Cross-Voting and Opposition Setback

The victory margin - 152 votes - was beyond the expected by NDA and it implied doubts about the unity of the opposition. The cross-voting allegations by the MPs of the INDIA bloc and the deliberately invalid ballots surfaced, which pointed to internal dividing lines. Congress’s Jairam Ramesh maintained that all 315 opposition MPs cast their votes, whereas Reddy only got assistance to the tune of 300 votes

A Soft-Spoken Choice

While he is 67, Radhakrishnan has the background of RSS ideology, he has been the MP of Coimbatore, the BJP state President in Tamil Nadu, and he has also had the experience as the Governor of Maharashtra and Jharkhand . His non-confrontational character and therefore the choice of the Chairman as a strategic regaining of the right course, in particular, by the events after the difficult period and the resignation of the former VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, are noted.

Strategic Southern Signal

Thus, the powerful signal he sends as only the third leader from Tamil Nadu to reach this constitutional post ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. Radhakrishnan’s membership in the Gounder OBC community is taken as a move to secure support from the region as well as the AIADMK partnership.

Voices of Congratulation

Radhakrishnan was congratulated by leaders from all political affiliations. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, congratulated him on his dedication and abilities and stated that he was a symbol of service and of inspiration. Eknath Sinde, Ajit Pawar, and Piyush Goyal, three Union Ministers, were among those who expressed their appreciation for his humility and for his values as a person of the institution.
