RCB's Historic Victory Marred by Tragedy: 11 Dead in Bengaluru Stampede

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have emerged victorious after 18 years. Three lakh people had turned up outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to see Virat Kohli. And then tragedy struck. Eleven individuals were crushed to death. Police sources said that the victims were below 30 years of age. Most of the 11 individuals were teenagers. The youngest of these was a schoolgirl of 14. 

A mother mourns on Son Lost in Mishap

Pavitra Ganesh was weeping outside Vaidehi Hospital morgue in Bengaluru. She lost her 22-year-old son in Wednesday's mishap. His son Projbal was a student at Engineering College. "He was mad for RCB. He died wearing that RCB jersey," Pavitra kept saying to her relatives. 

Manoj Kumar’s Final Outing After RCB Win

To mark RCB's win, 18-year-old Manoj Kumar stepped out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium with three friends on Wednesday. The friends did not want to go. Manoj, a first-year student of Presidency College, dragged them along, his friend Sattwik said. Manoj's father, Devraj Kumar, however, holds them responsible for the death of his sole son. Standing outside Bengaluru's Bowring Hospital morgue, he was weeping again and muttering, Devraj is a fuchka vendor by occupation. He kept repeating, "I used to work at a fuchka stall myself. I raised the boy with so much care. He left!"

Divyanshi Did Not Return From the Stadium 

Divyanshi, 14, went outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday with her mother, aunt, and younger sister. She resides in Kannur, Bengaluru. Her grandmother says, "The rest have come back. My only granddaughter did not come back." 

List of Victims Identified 

The victims identified at Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru are Devi (20), Divyanshi (14), Akshata (26), Shivlingu (17), Shravan Kumar (26), Manoj Kumar (18). The victims identified at Vaidehi Hospital are Bhumik (18), Sahana (21), Projbal (22), Purna Chandra (25), and Chinnaiah (19) at Manipal Hospital.
