Bangladesh Violence Turns Fatal as Mob Burns Opposition Leader’s Home, Child Killed

Bangladesh is experiencing terrible violence during ongoing protests, including an attack on an opposition leader's home by a mob that killed a child and hurt others. The incident late Friday night in the Bhabaniganj area of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila shows how law and order are breaking down in some parts of the country. According to police and local reports, people who are not known to the family locked the doors of the house from the outside, poured gas around the building, and then set it on fire, trapping the family inside as the flames quickly spread.

The victim was 7-year-old Ayesha Akter, the daughter of Belal Hossain, a local BNP organiser and business owner

Ayesha died at the scene after getting very bad burns. Her father and two older sisters were saved, but they were hurt badly and had to go to the hospital to get help.

Neighbours and people who saw what happened said that Belal's wife and some younger kids got away from the fire, but the locked doors and the fact that the attack happened so suddenly meant that the family didn't have much time to respond. The firefighters were finally able to stop the fire, but the house was completely burned up. The police have started to find out who is responsible and what their goals are.
