“You Have To Focus On The Sons…”, Richa Chadha Opens Up About Her Initial Fright To Have A Girl Child

Richa Chadha, known for her powerful portrayals in Bollywood films, recently opened up about being afraid to have a girl child. The actress shared her personal thoughts during an appearance on YouTuber Lilly Singh’s talk show.

Richa’s Reaction On Knowing About Her Pregnancy

When asked about her reaction to the pregnancy news, Richa said, “My initial response was fear and I was like ‘Oh my god, is my life over?.” She admitted that issues like climate change, genocide, and other troubling events around the world made her doubt whether it was the right time to give birth to a child. The idea of being a child’s sole source of food supply for at least the first six months was terrifying.

“We live in India. I have to buy a gun.” That was Richa’s first reaction upon finding out she was going to have a girl child. She expressed concern over the level of crimes committed against women by men in society, emphasising that true change can only come from raising awareness in the sons.

‘Change’ Starts at Home

She further added, “A son has to understand consent from his mother,” and “A son has to see his father treat his mother and sister well”— all as an effort to instill a sense of responsibility and respect in the male mindset.

Richa Chadha married Ali Fazal in October 2022. Their daughter, Zuneyra, turned one on July 16, 2025, marking a year of Richa’s journey into motherhood. With a deep concern about the state of society, she intends to raise her daughter to be strong and resilient.

Richa in Her Last Work

In her most recent project, Heeramandi, the actress played a heartbroken tawaif who died within the first few episodes. Despite her limited screen time, the impact she left on the audience was phenomenal. Fans were left wishing for more. Interestingly, as a feminist, her character stood in contrast to her real-life beliefs. In the show, she longed for love that remained unfulfilled and was ultimately betrayed.
