Virat Kohli has recently broken yet another record, which proves that he is, indeed, the GOAT! For the unversed, he has become the fastest player to reach 28,000 international runs and surpass Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli achieved this milestone during India’s first ODI match against New Zealand in Vadodara. He was able to complete the feat in just 624 innings, which was higher than Tendulkar’s previous mark of 644 innings. With this, Kohli has set a new standard for scoring pace at the elite level.

Virat Beats Kumar Sangakkara on an International Level

With the same record of 28,000 runs in 624 innings, Virat Kohli also overtook Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in the field of international cricket.

Kohli helped the home side chase a whopping score of 301 against the Blackcaps after scoring 93 off 91 deliveries.

Kohli’s Reaction to the New Milestone

There is no denying that Virat Kohli was quite elated after breaking a new record in the field of cricket. In the post-match presentation, he said, “Honestly I have no idea. I just send the trophies back home to my mum in Gurgaon – she loves keeping them. If I look back at my whole journey then it is nothing short of a dream come true for me. I have always known my abilities, but I also knew I had to work extremely hard to get where I am today. God has blessed me with far more than I could ever ask for. I look back at my journey with a lot of grace and gratitude, and I feel really proud of it.”

He also added, “If I am being brutally honest, the way I’m playing right now, I’m not thinking about milestones at all. If we were batting first, I probably would’ve gone harder. But in a chase, with a total on the board, I had to play the situation. I felt like hitting more boundaries, but experience kicks in. The only thing on my mind was getting the team into a position where we could win comfortably.”
