Uttarakhand Man Sentenced to Life for Brutally Killing Mother Over Money

A 38-year-old son has been convicted of murdering his mother by a court in Uttarakhand. He has received a life sentence. The youth is said to have hit his mother with a stick and smashed her skull. He had visited his mother to ask for money for his wife's delivery surgery. He killed her after failing to receive it. The verdict was recently given in the three-year-old case. The youth has been convicted on the basis of information and evidence.

Tragic Incident in Chamoli

Incident in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Champa Devi was killed in her own home on the night of January 27, 2022. The evidence given by her youngest daughter-in-law Urmila proved crucial to convicting her oldest son Kalam Ram for this crime. Since on that night only Urmila was present at home besides the mother and son. Urmila described what transpired while standing before the court.

Critical Testimony of Daughter-in-Law Urmila

The witness informed that it was snowing in Chamoli on the night of the incident. It was extremely cold. Her brother-in-law Kalam came suddenly to the house. He greeted his mother and asked her for money. He informed that his wife was pregnant. She would have a child through surgery. Money was required for the surgery. But the old woman did not comply with the demand for money. 

Midnight Screams and Shocking Discovery the Next Morning

The mother and son slept in the same room after dinner. As per Urmila's complaint, around midnight, she could hear screaming from the adjacent room. The mother and son were once again fighting. The mother-in-law screamed at one point. Urmila shut the door of her room in fear. Next morning, she saw her mother-in-law on the ground. She was injured on the head. The entire room was smeared with blood. Urmila screamed and then called people. She was unable to find her brother-in-law. She alerted her husband. On the basis of their complaint, two days later Kalam was arrested.
