UPI Digital India: On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the digital transaction service UPI. While making an announcement, the Prime Minister stated that more than 50% of all digital transactions worldwide are contributed by UPI. The achievement of UPI is not just limited to India but is recognized globally.
We all know that nowadays, every person has started using UPI for transactions. On the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a major announcement regarding this.

Addressing the entire nation from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about India’s Unified Payment Interface, which we know as UPI. He mentioned that UPI has now become a miracle on a global level. More than 50% of all digital transactions happening worldwide are being conducted through India’s UPI platform, which is a significant achievement for India.
Other Achievements of UPI
Let us tell you that UPI was launched in India in 2016. In the financial year 2024-25, 18,587 crore transactions were recorded on UPI, along with a transaction value of 261 lakh crore rupees, which is a remarkable feat in itself.
Talking about the month of July 2025, a record 1,947 crore transactions were made in a single month, which is a record that no other payment service has achieved so far.
Countries Using UPI Besides India
After successfully creating history in India, UPI is now being used by many countries. India has shared this technology with countries like the United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, France, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Singapore, etc., due to which UPI has now expanded globally.

While further discussing this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that UPI is easily used by small business owners and common citizens alike, which helps everyone become self-reliant. Due to the global expansion of UPI in this manner, India is rapidly becoming self-reliant.
