Trump Credits Pakistan Army Chief for Ceasefire, Modi Rejects Mediation in Firm Response

US President Donald Trump had lunch with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House. Trump expressed that he was honored to meet Munir after the meeting. The US President also issued new demands about the India-Pakistan ceasefire.

Trump thanked the Pakistan Army Chief for his significant contribution to the India-Pakistan ceasefire. He added, "The reason I'm here today is to thank him. Because he stopped it without going to war." Trump's latest addition on the India-Pakistan ceasefire, "Two smart people decided not to go to war. Both countries are nuclear powers." By 'two smart people', Trump is thought to be addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
India Rejects Mediation: Modi’s Firm Response to Trump
Trump had previously made several boasts of having halted the India-Pakistan war. On Wednesday, however, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reported that Trump called Prime Minister Narendra Modi by phone. During the 35-minute call, the Prime Minister made it explicitly clear that India was not going to accept any mediation. Modi informed Trump that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was also being discussed at Islamabad's behest. Then Trump spoke about that phone call. Right from the start, he declared, "I stopped the war between Pakistan and India."
