Torrential Rains Disrupt Delhi: Flights Diverted, City Transport Crippled
A number of flights to and from Delhi were diverted because of inclement weather. A minimum of 14 flights to and from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were diverted on Tuesday.
Flight Diversions Due to Bad Weather
A minimum of 14 flights were diverted from Delhi airport between 1 pm and 5 pm on Tuesday, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) stated in a release. Six flights to Bhopal, three to Chandigarh, two to Amritsar, one to Ahmedabad, one to Varanasi and one to Lucknow have been changed. Because of which passengers have been inconvenienced all day. To prevent inconvenience, airlines have also put out a notice requesting passengers to arrive at the airport a few minutes prior to the stipulated time.
Torrential Rains Cripple City Transport
IGIA in Delhi is the busiest airport in India. It is run by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). The airport has three runways with one closed for maintenance. This is why poor weather tends to place extra pressure on services. But whereas the rains on Tuesday offered a relief to the heatwave, misery for the residents of the city has deepened. Not only air traffic, but the road transport system has also been hindered by torrential rains. Water swamped many key zones of the capital. Public transport is experiencing hardship due to congestion.
