Shubman Gill Faces ICC Action for Dress Code Violation
Subhman Gill

Shubman Gill can be punished. He is captaining the Indian Test for the first time in the match at Headingley. He has been charged with breaking discipline in this match.

Shubman Gill Violates ICC Dress Code

Shubman has broken the International Cricket Council (ICC) dress code. On Friday, he went out to bat wearing black socks. The Indian captain can be penalized for this. As per ICC rule 19.45, no color socks can be worn by cricketers in a Test match. White garments are accompanied by white, light gray or cream colored socks. Other than this, there is no provision for wearing any other colored socks. Shubman played on the first day of the India-England first Test dressed in black socks. Shubman will be punished for defying the ICC dress code.

No Colored Socks in Tests

If Shubman is guilty, he may be fined up to 20 percent of his match fee. If Shubman manages to persuade the match referee that it was a genuine error and made out of ignorance, then he will escape punishment. Not just in Test cricket, but even in one-day and T20 cricket, cricketers are required to wear particular colored socks. As in Tests, socks may be worn in the shade of the jersey trousers but not white, light gray or cream. Though he has found himself involved in controversy for breaching the ICC dress code, Shubman has had success with the bat as captain. He is on 127 not out at the close of the first day.
