Salernitana Squad Hospitalized with Food Poisoning After Serie B Loss

21 players of Italian football club Salernitana were admitted to the hospital. Eight of them are football players and 13 are support staff. According to reports, they were affected with food poisoning.

Salernitana Defeated 0-2 by Sampdoria

Salernitana lost a Serie B match against Sampdoria. They lost 0-2. Due to that loss, they were on the verge of relegation. They were traveling back to the city after the match. During the flight, the support staff and footballers began to experience stomach cramps. They also began vomiting. Therefore, the club decided to have them transported to the hospital immediately. Four ambulances were seen waiting at the airport. Immediately the footballers alighted, 21 individuals were rushed to the hospital.

Illness Strikes Team Mid-Flight

The team is learned to have returned to the hotel following the match. Then they went to the airport. The footballers took food from the hotel beforehand. The trouble began after consuming that food. The good news is that all 21 have been released from the hospital. They are fine now. But they will not be able to play on the field at present. So the club has let the organizers know to cancel their upcoming match. Serie B has received that request.

Police Launch Investigation into Food Poisoning

An inquiry into the matter has been initiated. Police visited the hotel where the team had checked in. From there, it was reported that the food was prepared according to the way the nutritionist for the team had requested. Therefore, they are investigating how the food poisoning took place. The police are also inquiring if there is any other motive behind this incident.
