Operation Sindoor: India’s Bold Response to Pahalgam Attack

India's operation to fight terrorism, called Operation Sindoor, began on May 7 in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in Washington that the operation's goal was made clear, showing that India is committed to ending terrorism and holding those responsible accountable.

India's Message to the World: We will not Stand for Terrorism

Jaishankar said that Operation Sindoor made India's policy of "zero tolerance" for terrorists clear. He said that world leaders, especially the UN Security Council and the Quad countries, were behind him because they had spoken out against the April 22 attack and called for justice.

At the Quadrilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the joint statement strengthened the world's agreement to fight terrorism, with a focus on breaking down terrorists' support and funding networks.

Operation Carried Out Without Telling Pakistan

In response to rumors in the media, Jaishankar made it clear that India did not tell Pakistan about the action before it began. Later, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a clarification that backed up this remark and reaffirmed India's right to act alone in self-defense.

India's Strategic and Diplomatic Goals

It was important to Jaishankar that the action was both a tactical success and a strategic message. He said that the operation had been shared with the world, which reaffirmed India's right to safety and strong action against terrorists.

More Interaction with the US on Important Issues

While on the trip, Jaishankar interacted with a number of US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and many others. There were talks about defense cooperation, energy security, and technology sharing.

He also raised India's concerns about a proposal in the Senate that would implement 500% tariffs on Russian oil. This demonstrates why a balanced energy policy is so important.
