Day after Sindoor Operation, Pakistan Army once again uses cross-border shelling in J&K; India strikes back

The Pakistani Army again employed unprovoked night firing on May 7-8 in various sectors along the Jammu and Kashmir LoC. The Indian armed forces had a successful retaliation against the unprovoked firing. Firing of small arms and artillery guns occurred in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor.

The shelling follows a day after the Indian military had targeted terror infrastructure in the adjacent country as a part of 'Operation Sindoor'.

The Pakistani side had also shelled civilian areas in the area of Karnah after midnight, officials added.

On Wednesday, the Pakistani Army conducted intense mortar shelling on border villages along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir as Indian military forces conducted missile strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Heavy firing from across the LoC was witnessed at Krishna Ghati, Shahpur and Mankote in Poonch, Laam, Manjakote and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri district in Jammu division and Karnah tehsil area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district shortly after Indian bombing.

A least 13, including four kids and one soldier, were killed and 57 injured as Pakistan Army unleashed one of the strongest artillery and mortar shelling in years on forward villages along the LoC.

Hundreds of locals were forced to take shelter in underground bunkers or move to safe places as the indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan razed down houses, vehicles and several other buildings, including a Gurdwara, and caused panic among the border dwellers in worst-affected Poonch district and Rajouri in Jammu region and Baramulla and Kupwara in north Kashmir.

This is the first time that such a heavy shelling has been observed since the ceasefire agreement was reaffirmed between the two nations on February 25, 2021.
