BJP MLAs going to the Governor demanding President's rule be withdrawn in Manipur
BJP has initiated the process of government formation again in Manipur. This time, BJP MLAs are going to the Governor asking for President's rule to be withdrawn. A total of 10 NDA MLAs of which eight belong to BJP on Wednesday met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and sought government formation.
Urge to Establish Government in Manipur
In April 21, Manipur MLAs signed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to establish a government in Manipur. Eight BJP MLAs, one NPP MLA and one independent MLA were among those who went to the Governor on Wednesday.
President's Rule Amidst Manipur Crisis
Amit Shah's Union Home Ministry declared President's rule in Manipur in February this year. Manipur has remained in crisis for nearly two years. In such an environment, even after Biren Singh's resignation from the Chief Minister's position, the BJP was unable to declare the new Chief Minister's name.
BJP MLAs Advocate for End President's Rule
President's rule was imposed because of the stalemate. BJP sources say that a faction of party MLAs is of the view that the agitated situation in Manipur has been contained for now with the imposition of President's rule. At this point, no longer is President's rule required. A democratic government should established once again.
