Newlywed Sonam Accused of Plotting Husband's Murder

The newlyweds went missing while they were on their way from Indore, Madhya Pradesh to Meghalaya, and the investigators failed to trace the origin. It was 11 days later when Raja Raghuvanshi's body was found near the waterfall. His wife Sonam was also missing. 

Last Known Location of the Couple

Raj and Sonam were last spotted together in Meghalaya on May 23. They were trekking on a mountain that was very high. They spoke to their family for the last time on that day. Thereafter, the police investigation team arrived in not just Meghalaya but also Indore. The investigators were sure that Raja was killed. There was something mysterious about Sonam. Some even claimed that she had been trafficked to Bangladesh. 

Breakthrough in the Case on June 7

Meghalaya police inquiry turned the first big corner on June 7. The police subsequently found a knife covered in blood and a black raincoat. The CCTV footage at the home stay where the newlywed couple had been residing revealed Sonam wearing the raincoat. 

Sonam Located in Uttar Pradesh

Sonam has been spotted at a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, at 1 am on Sunday. The dhaba owner, Sahil Yadav, provided information about the encounter to the investigators. He says he rang the police and told them about Sonam. Sahil explained that Sonam appeared at his dhaba at 1 am in tears. He wanted to call home. Sahil handed his phone to Sonam. The number remains on Sahil's phone. Sahil rang the police that evening and reported Sonam to them. When she was brought to the police station, Sonam surrendered. 

Arrests Made in Multiple Locations

The Meghalaya Police team that was in Indore arrested two suspects on Sunday evening. They are reportedly accused of committing the murder of Raja. Once again, a person was arrested from Uttar Pradesh on Sunday evening. The Meghalaya Police DG added that the number of arrests altogether stands at four. Some more individuals are being hunted. The police also asserted that Sonam had employed a contract killer to murder her husband.
