New UPI Rules from August 1: What's Latest and Why They Matter

Starting August 1, NPCI's big updates aim to stop server crashes, make payments faster, and cut fraud risk. With tons of UPI use each day, these steps keep things smooth and safe.

What's Latest?

1. Limit on Balance Checks

Now, you can check your bank balance only 50 times per app each day. Apps that showed balance after every deal now block too many manual checks.

2. Less Bank Account Views

You can view your bank account list only 25 times a day. This eases the load on APIs and speeds up the process.

3. Pending Transaction Status Checks

If your payment is “pending,” you can now check its status just three times, waiting 90 seconds between tries. This stops too many API calls when the server is busy.

4. Set Times for AutoPay

Things like OTT or monthly plans will now only be handled during off-peak hours which are before 10 AM, between 1–5 PM, and after 9:30 PM. Deals set at other times might be moved earlier or later to smooth out peak loads.

5. Checking the Recipient Before Sending

UPI apps will now show the person’s registered name and deal ID before you finish a payment.

Why It Was Better in the Past

Before, users had no limit to check balances and get updates. AutoPay and seeing live transaction statuses were easy, yet too many uses often made servers slow or apps stop. While it all ran well, the system behind had hard times as more people made transactions.

Quick Look At What Should Users Know Now?

  • You can check balances 50 times a day in each app, so keep track!
  • Planned payments may go through late if started at busy times.
  • Not following rules could cut your access to APIs, sign-up options, or account limits.

Final Words

These new rules for UPI aim for a safer and more sure way to handle digital money. They change what was unlimited before, but they make payments quick and safe, often when it's busy. If you stick to the rules, payments will go smoothly. If not, some changes might be needed. Yet, this is a move toward a better UPI system.
