In a very unusual move, Google has swapped out its famous Doodle on the home page for an interactive ad to show off its newest AI invention, AI Mode, which is driven by the Gemini model. The animated Doodle, which was posted on July 3, 2025, is a way to start using the new AI-powered Search tool that was just released in India.

The tech giant usually uses the Doodle space to honor historical events, cultural icons, or global holidays. This is a big change for them. This time, the focus is on technology, more specifically, Google's attempts to change the way people search by using AI.

What does AI Mode do?

Based on Google's Look Labs, AI Mode lets people look in a more natural and friendly way.  Gemini 2.5 powers this feature, which lets you use text, voice, and image-based questions as well as smart summaries and answers that make sense in the given context.  This is a lot better than just searching for keywords.

First, it came out in the U.S. In June 2025, Indian users could also use AI Mode.  The spread shows that Google wants to speed up the use of AI in many places. India is one of the biggest internet markets in the world.

Why Doodle?

By using its Doodle to sell a product, Google has done a good job with its brand.  With new companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity, AI-powered search is getting more and more competitive. This lets people know about the new feature.

People who click on the Doodle are taken to Search Labs, where they can turn on AI Mode and try out the Gemini-powered features free of charge.

What Can People Do?

  •  With AI Mode, you can ask more in-depth questions.

  •  Use voice or pictures to make the exchange seem more real.

  •  Find full answers from reputable sites that are backed up by references.

  •  Look for information in a way that sounds like a chat.

These features are made to work with India's many different types of internet users, who like voice and visual input more and more.

 A Look Ahead

Google is going away from basic search and towards experiences that are better thanks to AI, as shown by their Doodle that talks about AI Mode.  Gemini's strong traits can help you understand purpose and gain greater insights. It's not enough to just find information anymore.

As AI changes how we use technology, Google's approach, starting with the home page, shows that the company wants to make search feel more like talking to a person.
