The latest Apple iPhone 17, the new flagship device from Apple, is officially launched in India on 19 September 2025. The 256 GB variant that serves as the base model costs ₹82,900 while the 512 GB version is priced at ₹1,02,900. This time there is no going lower than 256 GB for the base model. The other members of the family (Pro, Pro Max, and Air) are considerably more expensive.
Design & Display
iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion (up to 120 Hz) and high brightness, it is basically a carryover from previous years with a modern design of high-quality materials and water/dust resistance (IP68). The colors are Black, White, Mist Blue, Sage, and Lavender.
Performance & Software
The iPhone 17 is powered by Apple's A19 chip which has lowered the CPU/GPU performance and efficiency. It is complemented by 8 GB LPDDR5X RAM and a base of 256 GB of storage that is not expandable. It runs on iOS 26 which includes Apple Intelligence improvements, Live Translation, Visual Intelligence, etc.
Camera Performance
Apple has upgraded the imaging tech in the iPhone 17 by using a dual 48 MP Fusion rear camera setup (main + ultra-wide) for which both the sensors can capture more detailed and more dynamic pictures. The front camera has been turned into an 18 MP Center Stage sensor, so the framing of the selfies and making of the video call will be better. Features such as Dual Capture (front + back video), night mode have been improved and better stabilization are also provided.
Battery & Charging
Fast charging (approximately 50% in 20 minutes) is supported when one is using a 40W+ adapter, otherwise fast charging is not available. Wireless charging (MagSafe/Qi2) is also present.
Pros,Cons & Verdict
What is great: Standard model is endowed with Pro-level display and camera features, strong chipset, base 256 GB storage, sleek build, iOS 26 improvements. What is less desirable: Starting pricing can be considered high by a number of people and in that area, the competition is also very fierce. Moreover, the Pro/Pro Max models require paying a premium amount. Verdict: iPhone 17 retains a near-perfect balance of power, features, and Apple lovers, only fans of the watch except Pro prices, those who want the best "standard" iPhone Apple has ever released are probably right.
