Aamir Khan Rejects ₹120 Crore OTT Deal, Chooses Theatres for 'Sitare Zameen Par' Release
Mentally shattered after the failure of 'Laal Singh Chaddha', he believed that he would not be seen on screen anymore. But he couldn't decline his fans' demands. He began shooting for the movie 'Sitare Zameen Par' last year. It is being released on June 20. Prior to that, Aamir got the chance to earn 120 crores. But the actor canceled it in writing.
Inspired by ‘Taare Zameen Par’: A New Socially Relevant Tale
The movie is inspired by the 2007 movie 'Taare Zameen Par' featuring Aamir. The highly acclaimed movie highlighted the story of success of exceptionally talented children. The protagonist of the movie, Ishaan, was dyslexic. Aamir played the character of drawing teacher Ramshankar Nikumbh. The script of the movie has been framed around a social cause even this time.
High Stakes and High Expectations
There is already additional pressure with this movie. Even after one movie after another flopped, Aamir received an offer to sell the rights of this movie for 120 crores. An OTT company had offered that the producer would receive that much money if the movie was released on OTT rather than in theatres. But the actor rejected the offer.
Aamir Chooses Cinema Over OTT Debut
Aamir mentioned that he wishes the audience to view this movie in the cinemas. The movie will appear on OTT screens 8 weeks later after release. Not just that, this movie will be viewed on YouTube. But it is not free, you will need to pay in order to view the movie.
