The Privacy Wave Has Arrived

The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules have definitely set the bar higher for data security in India. The rules cast heavy obligations on the companies undertaking data handling operations, where they have to be responsible for users’ data and Google India is the leader of the pack in embracing this prodigious transformation. By now Google India has made public its AI-powered privacy and security technologies.

Google’s Privacy Tech Revolution

One of the things that Google did was to lead the way for privacy technologies that enhance privacy (PETs) by the likes of homomorphic encryption, federated learning, and differential privacy. The purpose of these systems is to securely analyse data — however, without revealing the identity of a user. To be in line with the DPDP framework, companies must employ such technologies, thus creating a leash for privacy innovation.

AI-Powered Scam Detection on Calls

Among the innovations that Google has achieved is its on-device scam detection feature that is remarkable by all means. Integrating Gemini Nano AI, the system identifies and reacts to suspicious scenarios in phone calls in real time, but it does not keep the audio; thus, privacy is respected. In the case of only unknown callers, the technology is applicable, and the users are entitled either to turn it on or off.

Fighting Digital Arrest & Screen-Sharing Frauds

The menace of online scammers is that they mainly employ the method of intimidation to provocate victims to share their screens. Google is not standing idle, on the contrary, it is responding with a test for a screen-sharing alert on Android phones. If the user initiates the screen-share in the middle of a transaction app, a message would appear on the screen notifying the user of the action and providing the authority to terminate it promptly.

Better Authentication = Stronger Security

In addition, Google has brought in the new feature, that is, Enhanced Phone Number Verification, a better method of authentication based on OTP than the old one. By using SIM consent and mobile verification, the system is cutting down the risk of identity fraud and at the same time, SIM spoofing during transactions.

Partnerships for Digital Trust

In an effort to bolster cyber-awareness in the country, Google is engaging with academic and cybersecurity institutions to train developers, create AI-driven safety solutions, and promote tech usage. Concurrence is becoming a decisive factor in India’s data protection future.

The Road Ahead

The tools put in place are indeed powerful, but still, they cannot overcome the problems of awareness, device compatibility, and digital literacy. What is beyond doubt, however, is the fact that data protection through privacy AI is no longer a matter of choice but rather ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌necessity.
