A Nationwide Sporting Spirit Arrives in Rajasthan

The 5th edition of the Khelo India University Games opened on November 24 with a vibrant atmosphere across Rajasthan. Unlike traditional sporting events held in a single city, this year’s games are spread across seven major locations, allowing different regions of the state to experience the energy and pride of hosting national-level athletes.

Rajasthan’s heritage-rich backdrop adds an unforgettable charm to the games. From Jaipur’s bustling stadiums to Udaipur’s calm yet competitive sporting arenas, each venue is filled with enthusiasm from local audiences who have warmly welcomed the athletes.

Nearly 5,000 Athletes Competing for Glory

The scale of participation this year is one of the largest ever. With around 5,000 athletes representing universities from every corner of the country, the event symbolizes India’s rising commitment to structured sports development at the grassroots and higher-education levels.

Students are competing in 23 sports, ranging from athletics, wrestling, and archery to swimming, basketball, and kabaddi. These games are not only about winning medals but also about developing discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship among young competitors.

Kho-Kho Debuts as a Demonstration Sport

A unique highlight this year is the inclusion of Kho-Kho as a demonstration sport. This traditional Indian game is making a comeback in modern competitive platforms, and its presence in KIUG is a proud moment for sports lovers.
