Stock Market Update: From 27 August 2025, the 50% tariff rule imposed by US President Donald Trump will come into effect in India. Due to this, a decline has already started in the share market. On 26 August, the Sensex was seen with a drop of 849 points, while the Nifty also closed with a decline of 255 points. As a result, investors have already suffered a loss of nearly 5 lakh crore rupees in a single day. However, the decline was slightly less due to the government’s GST reforms and the stability in crude oil prices.

Investors Lose 5 Lakh Crore Rupees in One Day

Due to such a significant drop in the share market in a single day, the total market cap has decreased from 455 lakh crore rupees to 450 lakh crore rupees. This has resulted in a loss of about 5 lakh crore rupees for investors in just one day. According to the information received, this sudden decline is due to the 50% tariff imposed by the US on India, which is set to take effect from 27 August.

Decline Less Than Expected

However, it was believed that after Trump’s tariffs, the decline could be between 1000 to 1500 points, but after the market opened on Monday, the drop exceeded 800 points. However, by the time the market closed, it settled with a decline of 400 to 500 points. Several reasons are being cited for this.

Reason for Less Market Crash

The Indian government announced GST reforms on 15 August and also mentioned reducing tax slabs, which has kept crude oil prices below 70 dollars per barrel in the international market. This has shown some control in the market. With the festive season about to begin, investors are not expecting a major decline either.
