Orry Linked to Drug-Laced Parties? Mumbai Police Summon Influencer in Big Probe

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has issued an official summons to social media influencer Orhan "Orry" Awatramani to appear for questioning at their Ghatkopar office at 10 AM. 

What's the Matter?

The basis of the investigation relates to a significant mephedrone case during which members of the Mumbai Police discovered a manufacturing plant on a farm located in Sangli, Maharashtra. Police discovered that 126.14 kg of MD (mephedrone) had been manufactured at the unit; the drugs are valued at around ₹252 crore. 

How Orry's Name Came Up

Orry's name came to the surface after the police interrogated Mohammed Salim Suhail Shaikh (also known as "Lavish") after he had been deported from Dubai and was taken into custody by Indian authorities.  In the remand application submitted by the police, Shaikh noted that he arranged for drug-fueled rave parties in Mumbai, Dubai, and Goa, which allegedly included attendance by Bollywood names and socialites, including Orry. 

Other high-profile individuals alleged by Shaikh's included actors Nora Fatehi and Shraddha Kapoor, the director duo Abbas–Mustan, rapper Loka, as well as politician Zeeshan Siddique. 

What the Police Said 

A senior ANC officer indicated that Orry's appearance is "routine" as the ANC conducts verification. Investigators are indicating they will cross-reference Shaikh's allegations against digital footprints, bank transfers, and correspondence to determine if there is ground for the allegations. 

Orry's Past Issues 

This is not the first time Orry has taken part in some controversy. Earlier during the calendar year, Jammu & Kashmir Police had registered an FIR against him for allegedly drinking alcohol at a hotel near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra — an area where drinking is strictly prohibited.  

What This Might Indicate 

While complaining does not mean Orry is being charged, it would be a turning point in what is rapidly becoming a wider probe. Based on what investigators may find in terms of evidence related to Shaikh's allegation, other celebrities and public figures may be drawn in.

Evidence may also reveal potential drug networks intertwined with high society, showing the broad reach of narcotics operations — from farms in South India, to parties in Dubai, to the glitzy world of Mumbai.
