Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi 2025: Auspicious Time

According to the Hindu lunar calendar, in the year 2025 the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi will begin on 19 October (at approximately 3:22 am) and will come to a close at 5:15 am on 20 October.

It is important to note that tithi timings may vary by vicinity. In this regard, it would be wise to check your local panchang for the most accurate detail. This day, more commonly known as Naraka Chaturdashi or 'the fourteenth night of the dark moon', precedes Diwali and bears great significance in terms of the symbolism inherent in astrology and spirituality.

Why does this date matter prior to Diwali?

Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi occurs one day prior to the Amavasya, or new moon — the evening of Diwali. This is an opportune time for cleansing, renewal, and purification in both the material and spiritual sense.

Astrologically, this time is also considered as a time of release from stagnation. When we conduct our puja and ritual work on this day, we shift the energies of the planets to create harmony and balance, and we create opportunities for abundance, peace and protection.

In many cultures, this is also the day that Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. Narakasura represents the victory of the Light over Darkness. It has also been said that removing all negativity on Chaturdashi also prepares the way to receive blessings for Diwali.

What Should You Do for a Prosperous Life?

● Clear Your Space: Sweep, mop, and declutter your home to eliminate negativity. Light diyas or ghee in each corner to channel divine energy.

● Have a Holy Bath: Add turmeric, sandalwood, and/or rose petals to your bathwater. This purifies both your body and aura.

● Express Gratitude & Charity: Feed the hungry, donate clothing, or pray for your parents or loved ones. Good deeds equate to merit that offers spiritual benefits.

● Burn Incense & Sing Mantras: You can sing the mantras “Om Namah Shivaya” or "Shree Mahalakshmi Namah” to feel prosperity, health, and peace.

● Set Intentions of Diwali: Think about what your heart desires to commit to manifestation — health, prosperity, or cooperation — visualize what you want to manifest when you light your diyas before dusk.
