ICICI Bank Minimum Balance: Recently, ICICI Bank decided to maintain a minimum monthly average balance of ₹50,000 in all its savings bank accounts. Due to this decision, many customers of this bank will now face difficulties. If customers maintain this minimum balance, it will increase their financial burden. When the Reserve Bank of India was asked about this, a response has also come from there.

Let us tell you that the Reserve Bank of India has informed that any bank can decide on its own how much minimum balance it will maintain. When social organizations were asked about this, ICICI Bank’s decision was considered appropriate for customers.

Due to RBI’s response, it has become clear that it cannot do anything in this matter. Setting the minimum bank balance is the bank’s right, and they can determine it at their discretion.

Freedom to Set Minimum Bank Balance for Banks

Let us tell you that all banks have been given the freedom to set their minimum balance. Some banks maintain it at ₹2000, some at zero balance, while others keep it at ₹10,000. Many banks give their customers the option to maintain a minimum balance. This does not fall under the jurisdiction of the central government.

What Decision Has ICICI Bank Taken?

Let us tell you that ICICI Bank has issued a new decision effective from 1 August 2025, according to which the minimum maintainable balance in your account has been increased fivefold.

  • Citizens living in urban areas will now have to maintain a minimum balance of ₹50,000, up from ₹10,000.

  • Citizens living in semi-urban areas will now have to maintain ₹25,000, up from ₹5,000.

  • In rural areas, the minimum amount of ₹2,000 has been increased to ₹10,000 to maintain.
