Sunlit Devotion: How the Four-Day Chhath Puja Culminated in a Message of Unity
The Prime Minister spoke of the need for peace as the four-day Chhath Puja came to an end: faith, nature, home, and socializing in a bright celebration of the divine.

                                    The Dawn of Celebration
On their annual journey, the 2025 celebration of the four-day Chhath Puja, a festival honoring Surya (the Sun God) and his sister, Chhathi Maiya, started on October 25 with the Nahay-Khay ritual. Devotees washed and made themselves ready for the upcoming spiritual journey.
Fasting and Faith in Harmony
Kharna or Day 2 is a description of a strict fast that the followers usually take part in for many hours but they eat a satvik (pure) meal and then refrain from food and water. The observance of this fast together with the communal preparations create the atmosphere of the festival: humility, devotion, and unity of purpose.
Riverbanks Alive with Rituals
The third day is dedicated to the Sandhya Arghya, which is the gift that the devotee gives to the setting sun. Devotees assemble on ghats and banks and await the sun’s farewell, which bathes them in its golden light. Thousands of people coming together next to the river was the scene in Patna among other cities where the tradition was followed with a deep communal spirit.

Final Offering at Dawn
The last day of the festival is celebrated with Usha Arghya, the offering of rites to the dawn of the sun. The picture of a fresh and thankful India is seen in the early hours of October 28, 2025 when devotees from different parts of the country converge next to rivers and ponds, the places for their common purification ritual, to greet the sun.
A Message from the Prime Minister
Narendra Modi was full of praise for the devotees who fasted and their households and branded such a festival as a “divine glimpse of our grand tradition.” He also encouraged people to play songs dedicated to Chhathi Maiya and indicated that the event is a synthesis of faith, nature, and culture.
Why This Matters
The essence of Chhath Puja lies beyond the rituals and fasting, in which it is a nature worship, community engagement, and cultural heritage which interplay. The festival "links the Bhojpuri community globally" and "brings national solidarity" as mentioned in the article.
In Conclusion
The four days of the Chhath festival came to an end with the rising sun but the end is also a new beginning, a hopeful one, and the unity of the people. The fasting devotees, the riverside ghats, and the message from the Prime Minister, the overall tenor of the Chhath Puja was a powerful image of the meeting of the divine and nature, of tradition and the present-day diverse society.
