ITR Filing 2025: Every year, millions of people file income tax returns. The main purpose of filing this income tax return is that most people want to get their tax return refund. However, for this, many people also use various fake methods. If you are one of them, it is essential to know what punishment you could face for making any fake claims and what rules apply to it.

Most Misuse of HRA and LTA

Let us tell you that while filing an income tax return, if you have paid any house rent, you get a tax exemption for it. For this, many people filing income tax returns often submit various fake documents and receipts or try to get returns by showing a house in the name of their parents or relatives.

Besides, if you prepare fake grocery receipts or present proof of cash transactions, it also becomes difficult to verify. Some people attach fake tickets and boarding passes to try to claim exemptions on LTA.

Use of Fake Receipts for Donations and Premiums

Under Section 80G of the Income Tax Department, if you donate to a temple or a political party, no tax is levied on it. In such cases, many people filing income tax returns obtain such receipts to easily save their money, which is completely wrong. For this, even major political parties are sometimes misused.

Some people try to get refunds in the name of insurance and insurance premiums. Similarly, under health insurance, attempts are made to get tax return exemptions by obtaining fake documents from doctors and insurance companies.

What Do Government Rules Say?

If you also make any mistake while filing an income tax return, you can file a revised return under Section 139.

If you are found doing this and do not respond to any government notice within the stipulated time or file the ITR incorrectly, you may have to face fines, investigation, prosecution, etc.
