Grammarly Adds Smart Helpers to Writing Platform

Grammarly has delivered a powerful new feature to assist people in writing better. On August 19, 2025, the company launched a full suite of AI agents - smart tools that go beyond grammar and spelling correction. Now, after detecting plagiarism and AI-produced writing, the new agents will assist authors in:

- Suggesting better wording

- Finding citations

- Inferring the expected reader response

- Estimating an earned grade

A Different Type of Writing Assistant

Grammarly’s new AI helpers, inside the company’s upgraded “Docs” writing platform, behave more like reflective partners than a simple checker. The helpers sympathize with what the user is writing and why. For example,

●The AI Grader agent takes a shot at how an assignment may be graded, based on your uploaded rubric and course information.

●The Reader Reactions agent gives you feedback on how different readers, including a professor or manager, may interpret your writing.

●The Citation Finder finds citations to support your claims and formats them correctly.

●The Proofreader focuses on grammar, clarity, and tone, while agreeing with your style.

●The Expert Review Agent provides feedback from specialists in a medical/clinical field.

●The AI Detector shows how likely it is that the text was written by AI, and the Plagiarism Checker compares the content to millions of database entries to check and report originality.

●The Paraphraser can change tone, audience, or style to align with your needs.

These agents are being rolled out to Free and Pro subscribers generally and Enterprise and Education subscribers later in the year.

Why It Matters

These tools can enhance the learning experience for students and also increase academic integrity. The AI Grader helps refine a draft before submission while the Plagiarism Checker and AI Detector create awareness about originality! The approach, or set of tools, is just the first step in potentially establishing AI literacy in classrooms.

For professionals, the agents provide smooth, speedy service. Whether composing reports, emails, or presentations, users can maintain their voice, while enhancing their content and credibility.

"This is a giant leap from basic suggestions to contextually-aware agents that have a much deeper understanding of the communication goals," says Luke Behnke, Grammarly's VP of Product.

The Future

These AI tools are available now in the Grammarly Docs platform; as they will be released in the other applications where Grammarly works, they will empower users with intelligent help wherever they write.

With the advent of these new AI agents, Grammarly is redefining writing support—not simply correcting errors, but inspiring and amplifying ideas.
